In parallel, international Space Shuttle Missions dedicated to radar remote sensing were conducted starting already in the 1980s. The most prominent were the SIR-C/X-SAR mission focussing on the investigation of multi-frequency and multi-polarization SAR data and the famous Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). Data acquired during the latter enabled to derive a DEM of almost global coverage by means of SAR Interferometry. It is indispe- ableeventodayandformanyregionsthebestelevationmodelavailable. Differential SAR Interferometry based on time series of imagery of the ERS satellites and their successor Envisat became an important and unique technique for surface defor- tion monitoring. The spatial resolution of those devices is in the order of some tens of meters.

It was designed to consolidate an otherwise fragmented yet outdated consumer credit legislation in order to achieve functional consumer protection by enforcing exhaustive disclosure; prevention of reckless lending and overindebtedness; creation of a dedicated regulator and new channels of debt rehabilitation. During the consideration of the credit Bill in the Portfolio Committee, submissions on the draft legislation were an exercise in the protection of turf in terms of the conflicting interests of consumers and lenders. Unlike lenders, consumers won major concessions which motivated the conclusion that the NCA was a victory for stakeholders favouring heavy regulation and a defeat for lenders. Lenders however, were not completely left to their own instruments as; encouraging fulfillment of financial obligations and discouraging contractual defaults by consumers were important policy objectives of the Act. This work is a case-study of the state regulating firms to protect consumers and is based on information available in public record particularly debates and hearings in the Portfolio Committee.

Shot in Kodachrome with a Leica and deftly lit with then-new sodium vapor lights, the pictures feature a distinct array of makes and models set against the gritty details of their surrounding urban and architectural environments, and occasionally the ghostly presence of people.
“I experienced a conversion of sorts in making a switch from the ‘decisive moment’ of black and white to the marvel of color, a world I was waking up to every day,” Clay writes of this work. “At the time it seemed like an obvious and natural transition. What was less obvious was how to reflect my world of New York City in color … I discovered that night was its own color and I fell for it.”
Langdon Clay was born in New York City in 1949. He grew up in New Jersey and Vermont and attended school in New Hampshire and Boston. Clay moved to New York in 1971 and spent the next sixteen years photographing there, around the country and in Europe for various magazines and books. In 1987 he moved to Mississippi where he has since lived with his wife, photographer Maude Schuyler Clay, and their three children.
