12 Inches of Sin is donating a portion of the proceeds from the exhibition to the Sin Sity order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. A charity, protest and street performance organization, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence uses drag and Catholic imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirize issues of gender and morality. At the charity’s inception forty years ago, a small group of gay men in San Francisco began dressing as nuns using high camp to draw attention to social conflicts and problems in the earliest years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Sisters continue to raise social awareness through performance art and community activism.
